A John Rowell of Yaxley takes on as an apprentice cordwainer (someone who makes shoes from new leather) Richard Smith on Wednesday 3rd July 1799 UK, Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices’ Indentures, 1710-1811 In 1799 John Rowell senior would be 51 John Rowell junior would be only 26 this seems rather young to take on an apprentice. John junior was however married in Yaxley in 1796, whereas JohnRowell senior seems to be still living in Folksworth at this point….

There were shops in Potton, Huntingdon, St Ives, St Neots, Forest Hill – London, Ramsey, March, Yaxley, Peterborough, Willingham, Cottenham, and Billingborough.
